Whos willing to bet that during 2007 PS3 ...

Who thinks so. I certainly do. EU really just rode on the brand name and I think that saved the PS3. If it wasn't for the brandname it would've been forgotten right now. lol.Whos willing to bet that during 2007 PS3 ...
I would say that is true about most systems. Whos willing to bet that during 2007 PS3 ...
So what if it did? Good for Sony.
Probably, yes. There was no reason to own a PS3 for most of 2007. On the bright side, it shows how strong the PS brand name is.
Yes because people impulsively drop $600 because they like a brand. I've loved all the playstations, but $400 is still too much for me.maybe it sold well in 2007 becaue it was a brand new system and thousands of morons always get new consoles as soon as they launch.it's also a blu-ray player...there are so many variables, and assuming that everything is blinded by brand name to the point of spending $600 is not one of them.
I accept your bet.

now the burden of PROOF is on you....
In europe it sure does. I know 10 people who bought PS3 over 360 because it was sony. Ps2's marketshare for Europe was ridiculous..well over 80% last gen. It only had 55% in US so that's why 360 is doing better here, the brand name for Sony is weaker compared to xbox in US than in Europe. This is also why PS3 will struggle to outsell 360 in U.S anytime soon.
So? What's wrong with that? Brand loyaty often shows that you are comfortable the the quality that that name represents. Most companies would kill (literally) for that kind of devotion to their product.
Ps3 is full of win.People like things full of win , thats why they bought a Ps3. =)
Probably, yes. On the bright side, it shows how strong the PS brand name is.
At the same time I also think this gen has weakened it. The real question will be how well will the PS4 sell. This year the PS3 survived off its name until it's big hitters came out. Now they're finally here, it'll continue to sell on the merits of it's games.
I dont know what are you trying to probe here, but if you scavenge some late 2006 early 2007 threads, you will see that was the general concensus between most posters, except the biggest fanboys. I always said the brand name is one of the most important assets Sony has on their side, that why they cannot easily change the console name also.
I would say that is true about most systems.
Honestly this gen I think that MS doesn't have any type of brand name popularity at all in terms of consoles. Maybe a few people will buy it thinking its made from MS but thats it.

DUH, did it take you this long to come to that conclusion?
Naw, I think it sold because of teh b-ray player.

It's well worth the extra $200 I spent on my PS3 for the extra two years of enjoyment I've had with it.As far as the topic goes, I had a Gamecube and Xbox last gen, never had a PS2 so it's not true what you said about brand name. I upgraded my Gamecube to a Wii, but my Xbox I sold and went to PS3.

B.) What 1st year launch title is worth $400-$600?
C.) How hard is it to wait a year or two for price drops and wait for good games to come out? You have a perfectly good PS2 that is still getting killer games on a monthly basis.Say I buy a 360 at launch for $400 +tax. What do I play on it for that year? PDZ? PGR3? Kameo? Did I really need to play Oblivion the moment it came out? Are any of these games honestly better than what last-gen had or is still getting? Now of course, if your filthy rich do what you will. but if you are a person who last limited funds, impuslively purchasing products that won't entertain nearly as much as something you already have, I would be worried about what else you blow money on.

I'm sure a $600 PS3 with its first year games was miles ahead of the enjoyment i got from my PS2 in 2007.:roll:I guess it's all opinion, but I would never buy a console at launch. I take gifts though, =p.
