Sony: LittleBigPlanet Potentially PS3's ...

Upcoming user-generated platformer LittleBigPlanet could be the PS3's biggest game of 2008, Sony has said.Speaking at an event for the game in London, Sony's senior product manager Nick Robinson told VideoGamer.com that LittleBigPlanet, which allows users to create and share platform-based levels and objects through PSN, will be a triple-A Blu-ray release and will be a fully priced product.He said: ''LittleBigPlanet is potentially our biggest Blu-ray release of 2008. We definitely see it as a triple-A Blu-ray release and will be a full price product.''According to Robinson's comments, gamers can expect LittleBigPlanet to cost between ?4.99 and ?9.99 when it is released some time in September this year.His comments will come as some surprise to certain Sony fans who might expect more conventional games to perform much better at retail. The PS3's confirmed exclusives for 2008 include first-person-shooters Resistance 2, Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4.Robinson also confirmed that Sony plans an open beta for the game at some point before its release, but said it will focus on the creation and sharing side of the game as opposed to traditional platform levels.''It's not like you will get to play the full game early,'' he said. ''It will focus on the create and share side of things. The potential for people to break the game is amazing.''However, it looks unlikely that we'll see a demo of the game. ''I'm not sure,'' Robinson said when asked. ''How do you do a Little Big Planet demo? If we put up a level people will just finish it.''He added: ''You can't sum it up in a press release. too bad those types of games don't sell well period. If a $199 PS3 comes this fall I'll buy a PS3 along with that game.

Hahaha!!!!! I am sorry, but this game is not going to sell more than MGS 4, killzone 2, or Resistance 2. Heck, I don't think it will sell more than Ninja Gaiden 2. I am sorry, but how many casuals really know anything about this game? How many casuals (who prefer FPS, Sports, or user-friendly system like Wii) is going to like a puzzle game?
I can't wait for this game. It's going to be awesome. I like the idea of creating levels with friends then being able to go thru them together. Actually I'm not super creative, but I can appreciate that talent in others. I really can't wait to see what people can come up with.

It looks like a dinky game with a level creator. PC gaming proves that even with a level creator, a game still has to be good at its core to be worthwhile. Heck even the xbox 360 shows this, or is Far Cry the best FPS on xbox 360? Everytime I hear about this game, it reminds me how much I want to try out Neverwinter Nights (I still havent :( )

[/QUOTE]It's essentially a puzzle game with different, creative obstacles and you jump around to get to the end. That's about it really. Oh, and you can make your own level and share. I don't know, but I don't see why all the hype.

There arent many games with level creators on consoles so it is getting alot of attention.

Have you seen how much work it takes to make a half decent level? If you watch any of the vids at gametrailers, they speed up the level creation, and with good reason!The potential is there, but I don't think the casual gamer is going to want to invest a ton of time in level creation.I have a feeling this game looks great on paper, but when executed is just a snoozer.

[/QUOTE]That's about right, The hype and really the core of the game is based on the ability to do it all with friends. Also the ability to share your levels is huge. One last thing the industry is interested is the physics engine. It is supposed to be pretty good. The objects you create react like they should.
